Monaghan Organ Recital Ken Cowan, guest organist

This annual memorial recital will be presented by guest organist Ken Cowan, professor of organ at Rice University, and celebrate the Schöenstein organ’s 25th year in the resonant Chapel of St. Basil on the St. Thomas University campus. Ken Cowan’s program will include “Ecumenical Suite for Organ Solo” by Michael Horovit, a multi-movement work based on Hymn tunes which Judy Crow commissioned in 1993 for her husband Tom Crow, professor of organ at UST. Other repertoire includes Widor’s Symphonie No.6. (The organ’s unique construction with a swell box within a swell box makes wide dynamic variations possible.
