Artistic Director, Paulo Gomes and the Houston Masterworks Chorus present Will Todd’s Footprints Choral Suite and a Houston premier, Mass in Blue.
Footprints Choral Suite, a jazz choral suite commissioned in 2012, inspired by Mary Stevenson’s poem, Footprints in the Sand. The story of the footsteps is about friendship and responsibility and reaching out, and in that sense has meaning for everyone whether religious or otherwise.
Julie Sacks, Pianist
Will Todd’s reflective text explores how we need, and reach for, friendship amidst the vastness, power and timelessness of the universe.
Mass in Blue, Op. 28 A New Jazz Choral Masterwork
The Mass in Blue is a six-movement piece composed in 2003, and reflects the composer’s fidelity to standard Latin Mass text settings while the music is based on traditional blues harmonies that paved the way for the well known jazz style in the nineteenth century
