Chrism Mass (Allegri’s “Miserere Mei”)

March 26 @ 7:00 PM 9:00 PM

Each year at the Chrism mass during Holy Week, the Catholic Archdiocesan community gathers to hear over 200 priests reaffirm their vows, to see oils blessed, and to sing with the Archdiocesan Choir traditional chants (O Redemptor), contemporary hymns (Priestly People/Pueblo de Reyes, Lord Whose Love in Faithful Service) and antiphons (I Will Sing Forever). This year the communion meditation is Gregorio Allegri’s “Miserere Mei”. Allegri composed it for the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel and it was restricted to Vatican use only until Mozart attended Good Friday mass, heard the captivating piece, and notated it from memory. Come hear history performed by the SSATB choir/SSAB soli in the magnificent Co-Cathedral acoustics – and be uplifted.
