Bravura Concert Series: Houston Cecilia Chamber Choir

Houston Cecilia Choir, directed by Gonzalo Ramos, is proud to present Ariel Ramirez’s Misa Criolla, composed in 1963, standing as a landmark achievement in choral music, seamless blending the traditional Latin mass text with the vibrant sou ds of Argentine folk music. The beloved Misa Criolla is distinctively characterized by a prominent tenor solo that weaves its way through the entirely of the work, serving as its lyrical and emotional core. For this performance, the critically acclaimed and international opera tenor Angelo Ferrari takes on this pivotal role. Noteable, Misa Criolla was among the first masses to be composed in the vernacular Spanish following the Second Vatical Council, making it accessible to a wider audience. The work is characterized by a rich tapestry of Argentinian musical styles, including the Vidala, Carnavalito, Yaraví, Characera, and Estilo, interwoven with Bolivian folk rhythms.
